Dr. Elena C. Pappas

I am blessed to be able to say that I have been actively practicing medicine now since 2006. I am a proud New Jersey native, Board Certified in Family Medicine.

I got an early start to my career, and have always had a love for the sciences. As an undergraduate I double majored in Biology and Chemistry, and started medical school with a Dual Bachelor of Science in these subjects. While my background in the hard sciences is not always clinically relevant, it has definitely had a positive impact on my analytical and problem-solving skills. My patients have only benefited from this over the years. I started medical school when I was 21 years old and attended NYIT SOM out on Long Island for four years. I was fortunate to train in many parts of New York where I got to see and treat diverse populations of patients with many different ailments.

After medical school, I completed a 3-year Family Medicine residency program in Philadelphia within the Jefferson Health System. My training in another major city like Philadelphia exposed me to vast populations of patients with a wide array of medical conditions.

Since 2009, I have been providing primary care services as a solo Family Doctor to patients of all ages in Toms River, New Jersey. Small privately held practices like mine have become few and far between, as hospitals and large institutions have engulfed most of them. My patients truly enjoy seeing the same Doctor at every visit and many of them have formed special bonds with me due to this unique continuity that is very hard to find these days. Over the years my practice has only grown and grown, by word of mouth from the many patients that I am privileged to take care of every day. By embracing technology, a small and humble office like my own effectively cares for thousands of patients in a clinical setting that avoids feeling institutional or intimidating. True to my training, my office takes care of a diverse population of patients from all walks of life. I work hard to be accessible and available to all of my patients. I like to think of myself as a regular Doctor who takes care of regular people. I often leave my white coat at home.

One of my favorite things to do is help train the future generation of Doctors, and I have had many medical students spend their Family Medicine rotation here with me at my office over the last decade. It has truly been a pleasure and I always look forward to having them. I continue to be an adjunct clinical professor at NYIT SOM, where I attended medical school myself.

My office is a true medical home, as my patients can come here as a starting point for just about any medical problem.

In my spare time I enjoy gardening with a focus on plants which attract pollinators such as butterflies, hummingbirds, and bumble bees. I enjoy bird watching, photography, and spending my free time with my family.
